Missing Texas Teen found on coal train 300 miles away from Colorado Springs

A Texas teen girl, who went missing during a vacation with her family in Colorado Springs last week, has been found safe on Monday night on a coal train in a small town about 300 miles away.

13-year-old Adalie Rivera, from Lubbok disappeared from the Quality Inn Colorado Springs Airport hotel; she was last seen on Friday morning at about 6:30 a.m.

Spokesperson for Colorado Springs Police, Lt. Howard Black said that the girl somehow ended up on the train in Dumas, Texas, which is a panhandle town with a population of just 15,000 people. The girl was unharmed despite being missing for four days, he added.

Adalie said to investigators that she boarded a coal train in the Colorado Springs area, and traveled on until she got to Dumas.

Police said that there are no railroads close to the hotel where the teen was staying with her family, though coal train travels south along the railroad which is a few miles away to the south and west.

The girl got off the coal train, after “running out of Skittles” and becoming hungry. A farmer in Dumas found the girl covered in coal dust and called the law enforcement in Moore County, Texas.

The Moore County Sheriff’s Office took custody of the teen until family members came.

Investigators are trying to specifically determine, whether Adalie had run away or if there was any criminal conspiracy involved with her disappearance.

At this point there is no reason to believe, if any criminal conspiracy was involved in Adalie’s disappearance, police said.
