Ranil Wickremesinghe is named as the new President of Sri Lanka and he has several challenges ahead. The country has been battling with huge financial issues and there are no new debts coming for the country. Hundreds of protestors gathered outside the official residence of the President and they raised slogans "Go back Ranil". Ranil Wickremesinghe said that he is against the Rajapaksa ally. "I am a friend of the people and I am not the friend of Rajapaksas," told Ranil Wickremesinghe. The former President of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled from the country after he could not take the stress. He flew to Maldives and then to Singapore. India continued to support the island country to recover soon. The Indian High Commission in Colombo issued a statement after Ranil Wickremesinghe was elected as the new President.

The headline inflation rate of Sri Lanka is 59 percent as per the data that is released by the statistics department. The National Consumer Price Index came up by 58.9 percent in June and it was 45.3 percent in May. Ranil Wickremesinghe will discontinue the Parliament without dissolving it. The train fares in the nation will be increased from July 22nd. The Australian High Commission in Colombo revealed that the Ranil Wickremesinghe's government should work towards a long-term economic stability. Ranil Wickremesinghe's wife is 57 years old and she is an English Professor at the University of Kelaniya. Former President and sitting MP Mahinda Rajapaksa was present for the swearing-in ceremony of Ranil Wickremesinghe. Ranil Wickremesinghe reminded that he worked for the former President Chandrika Kumaratunge.
