The Xiaomi 15 series of smartphones made its debut this week in international markets, with the flagship line set to be released in India on March 11. Although the next iterations of these devices are not anticipated for several months, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF Securities International has provided insights on the rumored Xiaomi 16 Pro. This upcoming smartphone may feature a new component that could lead to a lighter build and enhanced thermal efficiency. In a recent post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Kuo mentioned that Xiaomi aims to launch its next generation of premium smartphones by late 2025.

Kuo’s latest findings indicate that the Xiaomi 16 Pro, which is expected to succeed the Xiaomi 15 Pro, will incorporate a metal mid-frame made using 3D printing techniques. The analyst notes that Xiaomi has enlisted the services of Bright Laser Technologies (BLT), a Chinese supplier, to manufacture this mid-frame. In contrast to the mid-frame utilized in the current Xiaomi 15 Pro, the one for the Xiaomi 16 Pro will reportedly be built through BLT’s 3D printing process. Although there are challenges regarding production efficiency, Kuo acknowledges the significant benefits of employing a 3D printed mid-frame for smartphones. This approach allows manufacturers to create lightweight, hollow designs that do not compromise the frame's durability, while also improving thermal management.

Kuo further suggests that as production efficiency enhances, more smartphone manufacturers may embrace 3D printing technology. He anticipates that this transition will occur even though the current manufacturing methods may still offer superior efficiency, as the advantages of 3D printing are likely to surpass the costs over time. Following the trends of Xiaomi's past product launches, the successor to the Xiaomi 15 Pro is expected to be unveiled in China during the fourth quarter of 2025. The existing model boasts a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, a 2K 120Hz OLED screen, triple 50-megapixel rear cameras, and a 6,100mAh battery that supports 90W fast charging.
