Virat Kohli, a prominent player for India, aged 36, has suggested that he may not have another chance to participate in a Test series in Australia. The former captain of the Indian cricket team acknowledged that he has mentally adjusted to the batting struggles that have increasingly characterized his performances in recent years. He highlighted his disappointing results during an away series against Australia, noting that his form declined significantly after scoring a century in the first Test at Perth.

"If you were to inquire about the level of disappointment I’ve felt, the recent tour of Australia stands out as the most vivid. Therefore, it seems particularly intense for me at the moment. However, I need to refrain from viewing it in that manner. In four years, I may not have another opportunity to tour Australia again. I cannot rectify past performances, so I must come to terms with what has transpired in my career. Unlike in 2014 against England, where I was able to return in 2018 and improve, that might not happen again," he stated. Kohli emphasized that avoiding pressure involves tuning out external distractions.

"When you start focusing on outside disappointments, you add more pressure on yourself. That’s an experience I’ve certainly had in Australia as well. After performing well in the first Test, I felt optimistic, thinking, 'Here comes another major series for me.' Unfortunately, it did not unfold that way. The way I cope is through acceptance. This is the reality, and I will be truthful with myself," he explained. Kohli admitted to occasionally reacting emotionally on the field and recognized that he sometimes goes "overboard."

"I have tendencies to become a bit excessive with my reactions. I've never hidden from this fact. While some may find it challenging to process my responses, for me, it always stems from a genuine place. My competitive spirit remains strong. It's possible to be mentally aggressive without necessarily expressing it outwardly in moments of frustration, which I have done," he reflected. Nevertheless, Kohli mentioned that he could have exercised greater self-control during those moments. “In recent times, I realize this hasn’t been ideal and I personally don't feel proud of those interactions. While some may criticize me for this behavior, I believe there are many more who appreciate seeing that passion,” he concluded.
