Nearly four dozen Texas gasoline stations have agreed to issue refunds to purchasers after being accused of Hurricane Harvey-related price gouging.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton proclaimed that settle of nearly $167,000 in a probe in which some gasoline stations reportedly charged as much per gallon $8.99.

Harvey made landfall in South Texas past August 25. Texas Governor Greg Abbott as Harvey approached proclaimed a state of catastrophe, actuating a provision of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act that makes gouging terms illegal.

Thousands of complaints were accepted by Paxton's office regarding expensive fuel. All the settled 48 stations charged $3.99 or higher per gallon of gasoline or diesel. Paxton says most violations were by stations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Consumers required to fill out claim forms to seek refunds.
