Mumbai Indians (MI) player Rohit Sharma will allegedly have tests done to check how bad his hamstring injury is after the recent game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Sunday, April 12. As per Cricbuzz, the findings from these tests will decide if he will participate in MI’s upcoming game against Punjab Kings on Thursday, April 16. Rohit faced 12 balls in the second half but then called for a trainer, who treated him for a while. He attempted to keep playing and faced one more ball but had to leave the field soon after scoring 19 runs off 13 balls. Suryakumar Yadav took his place, and MI lost the match by 18 runs while chasing 241 runs. The MI team has not shared much information about the injury's seriousness. "I'm not completely certain right now. It could be a minor hamstring issue, but I can't confirm it. I was in the dugout, so I don't have all the details," stated teammate Sherfane Rutherford following the match.

Rohit last missed an IPL match because of an injury in April 2025, when he was unavailable for a game against Lucknow Super Giants due to a knee problem. Cricketers often face hamstring injuries during quick runs between wickets or sudden bursts of speed in the field. These injuries fall into three categories. A Grade 1 injury is a minor strain where the muscle stretches but does not tear. Grade 2 involves a partial tear, leading to quick pain, bruising, and noticeable strength loss. Grade 3 indicates a severe and complete rupture of the muscle or its connected tendon. To assess the exact damage, doctors mainly depend on MRI scans. They carefully analyze the images to find the exact location of the tear, check for fluid build-up or internal bleeding, and see if the tendon has come off the bone.

The time needed for recovery varies based on the injury's seriousness. Grade 1 strains generally need one to three weeks of rehab. Grade 2 tears can keep players out for four to eight weeks. Serious Grade 3 ruptures require a challenging three to six months of recovery, occasionally needing surgery before a player can safely return to play. In some situations, hamstring issues might simply be caused by mild stiffness, which can be easily fixed with some rest.
